After captivating judges in the NCLA Chef Showdown’s preliminary round in Asheville with his Braised Heritage Farms Pork Cheek, Chef Cory went onto the finals, where he triumphed over 20 other chefs to win The People’s Choice Award for Best Savory Chef. His winning dish? North Carolina-inspired, of course: Cheerwine-Braised Short Rib Filet with a creamed parsnip sweet corn succotash.
Haigler’s passion for the culinary arts began at a very young age. When his friends were playing outside, he would be cooking in the kitchen with his mother and grandmother, and chef Haigler loves cooking fish that he catches.
Although Chef has a keen sense for a variety of cuisines, he says that if he could only eat one dish for the rest of his life, it would be a NC style hotdog. Sometimes, the simple things in life are the absolute best!
Chef Cory has been with The Westin Charlotte for 16 years. He joined the team shortly after the hotel’s grand opening in 2003, as a line cook, and worked his way to his current position as Executive Sous Chef.
